To evaluate the use of plasma haptoglobin (Hp) levels and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in predicting survival patients with severe acute decompensated heart failure (AHF). Management AHF is challenging. Identifying markers associated patient prognosis this disease clinically important. In prospective observational study, Hp NT-proBNP were measured. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves used to identify cut-offs greatest specificity sensitivity for overall cardiovascular-related survival. The cut-off values tested (n=41). value respect was 177. 1 ng/mL both outcomes 34 246.0 pg/mL 11 848.5 ng/mL, respectively. Using these values, study found that lower baseline (<177. ng/mL) or higher (≥34 246 pg/mL) more likely have shorter Similarly, <177. ≥11 had highest risk death related cardiovascular disease. Our findings indicate using specific can be determine patients.

What Can We Learn from 21 Years of School Poisonings in New Zealand?

Background: Childhood poisoning is a significant international health concern. Very little is known about trends in exposures within schools and preschools. The objectives of this study were to investigate the data recorded by the New Zealand National Poisons Centre (NPC) on these types of exposures over a 21 year period (1989 to 2009) and to determine trends and propose strategies to reduce th...

Adopting New International Health Instruments – What Can We Learn From the FCTC?; Comment on “The Legal Strength of International Health Instruments - What It Brings to Global Health Governance?”

This Commentary forms a response to Nikogosian’s and Kickbusch’s forward-looking perspective about the legal strength of international health instruments. Building on their arguments, in this commentary we consider what we can learn from the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) for the adoption of new legal international health instruments.

COVID-19 Pandemic: What Can the West Learn From the East?

Differences in public health approaches to control the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic could largely explain substantial variations in epidemiological indicators (such as incidence and mortality) between the West and the East. COVID-19 revealed vulnerabilities of most western countries’ healthcare systems in their response to the ongoing public health crisi...

What we can learn from atmospheric neutrinos

Physics potential of future measurements of atmospheric neutrinos is explored. Observation of ∆m221 driven sub-dominant effects and θ13 driven large matter effects in atmospheric neutrinos can be used to study the deviation of θ23 from maximality and its octant. Neutrino mass hierarchy can be determined extremely well due to the large matter effects. New physics can be constrained both in stand...
